I am equally good in both versions of the game: Danish Kaneria
By RLCA correspondent, Asif Khan
Pakistan Leg spinner Danish Kaneria said he went into the match with a positive frame of mind. “I was given a role of a senior bowler in the absence of Sami and Shoaib, and thank God I managed to do something for my country” Kaneria said.
Talking to RLCA correspondent, Kaneria dedicated his performance to his parents and wife.
Referring to his pre match preparation, the tall wrist spinner said a match or two in the domestic competition assisted him in gaining the required vigor, and on top of everything with some valuable tips given by Rashid bhai (Rashid Latif captain Karachi blues) he managed to overcome his weaknesses.
“Rashid Bhai and Basit Bhai (Basit Ali) told me a lot about Sri Lankan batsmen, and that helped I believe” Danish said.
A stint with English county Essex also increased his confidence, “I used to bowl 40 to 50 overs there, and I believe that practice helped me in bowling longer spell in this series”. The 23-year-old added.
Danish has signed a two-year contract with the county. And in this past season he was among the highest wicket takers in the championship with 63 wickets in 11 County Championship matches.
On a question, Danish categorically denied the impression that he is only a test player. “I want to be a permanent part of the team, and I consider myself equally effective in both versions of the game”. Danish said.
On his ambitions Danish said “I don’t make long term plans, however my eyes are on my 100th test wicket and I would love to cross the milestone against Australia in the forthcoming season”. Danish Kaneria has so far taken 87 wickets in 20 test matches.
Kaneria finished with figures of 10 for 190 and the man-of-the-match award as Pakistan won by six wickets on Monday to draw the two-Test series 1-1. It was the second 10-wicket haul of his Test career.
