Dav Whatmore resigns as KKR coach, likely to get Pak coach job

http://www.geo.tv/GeoDetail.aspx?ID=29754

KARACHI: Dav Whatmore has resigned as head coach of Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders IPL franchise, Geo News reported.

This move has strengthen the news that Whatmore is likely to become the next coach of Pakistan.

Whatmore, who had a successful stint as coach of Sri Lanka and later served in Bangladesh, is currently coaching Kolkata Knight Riders, the Indian Premier League franchise.

He will visit Pakistan in the second week of January to hold talks with PCB officials.

Mohsin Khan, a former Test opener who is currently coaching the national team on an interim basis, has also shown a keen interest in signing a long-term contract with the PCB.

But it is understood that PCB chiefs are more interested in roping in Dav Whatmore, the former Australian Test cricketer, for the job.

However, a reliable source told 'The News' that contrary to reports that Whatmore's appointment as Pakistan's coach is a done deal, the Board is still keeping all its options open. "PCB may be inclined towards the Whatmore option but the fact is that it is keeping all options open," said the source.

whatmore will be good only if he is given a long time to impose his vision on the team. in the short run, he will probably make people mad with his no BS attitude. but let's see how the team does in england under mohsin khan. feel kind of bad for him as well, especially if we manage to beat england

I seriously dun wana see this guy, nothing against him I don't think Pak team and him would be a good mix. I would love to see mudassar being a coach but that ant happening. Am not doubting Whatmore talent just don't this the team will have good chemistry seems to be like greg chappell and team india waiting to happen.

what's so special about mudassar nazar? he had been a coach few times, I don't recall if he had done anything significant.

If he is a prick then lets treat him like one in a fair bit of trade.
He should be ready to be shown the door if he isn't able to bring significant improvement in the team in quick time. $21,000 a month, a bullet proof car and a 5 star hotel stay is not a joke and not something we wanna mourn about after keeping our mouth shut for his three years contractual term.

Personally I am not a whole lot impressed by his stint with KKR. I am supporting him primarily not because of his ability and skill but the fact that he is not a desi. My ideal candidate would have been Dean Jones but bhaagtay chore ki langooti he sahi. Let's see how good can he be in influencing our ultra lallu PCB chief.

you feel bad for the man who says the stuff like, "Misbah fears losing captaincy, says Mohsin"

Who gives this kind of statement before a major series? What an Idiot bigmouth this person is. never liked him Glad he would be off soon.

Yeah muddy isn't much of a coach, he is too soft. I'm talking from experience here I had the privilege of getting some coaching from him at a training camp.

I think Dean Jones would have been better, but so was Geoff Lawson in 2007. It all depends on PCB if they really want to have the coach stick around. I am hoping to see improvements in fielding and temperament. Whatmore should not ask 'what more', there is a lot which need to be fixed.

man i can't wait for this england series, haven't looked this much forward to a series in a damn long time. it really doesn't matter who the coach is, the more important thing is that we have all our players fit and available for selection. we used to have this horrible habit of important players getting injured before important series, and would hate to see that happen here. we will need to be at our best to beat the brits, but i am confident we can do it. onwards and upwards, pakistan zindabad!!

Yep, looks like an interesting series. Pakistan is up against a stronger opposition (at least on the paper), and hopefully this will force us improve and elevate our game starndard.
Stats sometimes are meaningless and at other times may give us a clue to make an educated judgement. Cricket is a game of chance and skill, and anything can happen on the given day but I would sense improvement if Pak batting could score 300 runs in any test innings.

An overall TEST comparison between the two is interesting. Pakistan played against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, SL and WI, while England played against Australia, SL and India to register these numbers in 2011.

ODI may be interesting as Pakistan produced better ODI results (against relatively weaker oppositions) in 2011 and we may see a couple of hard fought games.

T20 stats may be slightly deceiving as England is not only a well deserving World Champion but also their fielding is pretty good than Pakistan; however, the difference between the two teams could be ,,,,, the one and only ... Shahid Afridi
