I’m ready to coach Pakistan, says Shoaib Akhtar

I

LAHORE: Controversial former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar threw his hat into the ring on Friday to become Pakistan’s next bowling coach.
Pakistan have been hunting for a bowling coach since appointing Australian Dav Whatmore as head coach in March, with former Essex paceman Ian Pont the leading contender.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) set up a three-man committee to find a suitable candidate but so far nothing has been finalised.
“I am ready to be the bowling coach for Pakistan,” Akhtar, 37, told reporters. “If the PCB contacts me then I will offer my services.”
The paceman, whose career was plagued by fitness and discipline problems, retired from cricket after the World Cup last year and has since been involved in business.
He took 178 wickets in 46 Tests and 247 in 163 one-day internationals.
“It’s an honour to serve the country and it can be done by helping the upcoming bowlers. It will give me a chance to pay back what the country has given me,” said Akhtar.
Pakistan face Australia in a limited-overs series in the United Arab Emirates from August 28, with three one-day internationals and three Twenty20s.
Akhtar said Pakistan will miss fast bowler Umar Gul who was not selected for the ODIs.
“Both Gul and Brett Lee will be missed in the series,” said Akhtar. “But it will be a good series and bowlers will play a key role.”
Lee, considered as quick as Akhtar, retired from international cricket last month.

well he cant apply cuz the date line has passed so if he was interested should have applied when PCB was accepting the applications, secondly he is asking PCB to request him ke jaanab aaiye hazoor coaching kare same stance as lot of other x-cricketers, PCB should ask me why, if u so willing to help pak and want professionalism then apply.

PCB has done lot of crap but x-cricketers ant no angels either

lol does he even understand the concept of discipline and it's utmost implementation in a coaching role? There Gary Kirsten gets at the ground at 5:30 am and wants the entire at the ground to start the practice at 6:00 am sharp, idher Saari pak team subah 9:00 bajay ground pe Iska wait kar rahi ho aur Akhtar sahib pichwara Aasman ki taraf karkay kisi cheap club sey uthayee hui third class, disease infected moti aurat ki aaghosh mein so rahay hon.

Bhai Saab in sab k liye basic IQ ki zaroorat hoti hai. This guy landed on Heathrow without a visa to play cricket with the concept of "Chalo kher hai udher jaa kar hojaeyga". Funny thing that really boggles my mind that some of these are just not ready to learn no matter how harsh and unpleasant the experience may have been. Udher Asif ko deykho, Itna kuch honay k baad bhi he checks into the UAE airport with a packet of chars in his wallet! Seriously yar, can you imagine?

yup, absolutely. but professionalism has to start from the top and then work its way down to the players. in the past our boards have been so unprofessional themselves that its no wonder the cricketers have no discipline.

professional board--> professional coaches and mangers--> professional players--> professional performances.

of course there are exceptions. you can say what you want about misbah but you cannot deny he has been thoroughly professional since day one. but it does need some initiative from the leaders in order to instill a professional mentality in the team as a whole. i think zaka is doing a good job as head of pcb, let's see if this bears fruit in the long run.
