Cool Inzamam named Pakistan cricketer of the year
KARACHI (Reuters) - Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was named 2005 Pakistan cricketer of the year on Tuesday in the inaugural awards chosen by the country's cricket board.

"We considered a total of nine tests and 22 one-dayers before selecting the players," said Lt. General Tariq Wasim Ghazi, chairman of the board's selection committee.

"Inzamam was picked not only because of his performances but also due to the impact he has had on the team as captain," he added after the decision based on matches in the calendar year.

Inzamam struck 431 runs, including three test centuries, during England's visit to Pakistan before Christmas after compiling 568 runs in three tests in the tour of India and on his only appearance during the trip to the West Indies.

Wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was chosen as Pakistan's Emerging Cricketer of the Year.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan said seven players had been short-listed for the main awards, which would be given each year.

Inzamam was also among the nominees for the 2005 International Cricket Council player of the year award that went to England's Andrew Flintoff.

no doubt in that , a great news for every one he deserved to be one ,, playing and maintaining his form while carrying responsibilities on his shoulder is jus ggreat once again congratulationz to inzi .. he deserved it .. i would nt be surprise when he gets an award as a best player from icc .. well done

i personally think is should have been bhajji after his great performances in the two tests for pakistan, a couple of double centuries to his name, but u cant go wrong with an average over a hundered for a year, so well done inzi

inzii is just great, words r nt enough to describe him. he has lead his team frm the front and always there for the team wenever there is a collapse. nt only is he a great batsmen but also has emerged as a great captain. bravo inzii, u have done ur country proud.
