Inzamam upset at not being named for award

KARACHI: Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq is still waiting for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to recommend him for the Pride of Performance award from the Presidency in Islamabad.

This correspondent has learnt that the senior batsman was expecting the board to recommend his name this year for the highest award given to civilians every year who have performed
outstandingly in their fields and have brought laurels for the country.

Having led Pakistan to a memorable series in India, Inzamam a veteran of 101 Tests and 338 One-day Internationals, sources said, was sure the board would send his name to the Presidency for consideration for the awards conferred this year.

"When Inzamam came to know that the board had again not recommended his name he was not happy with the situation specially when he learnt that one or two officials of the board were blocking his recommendation for the prestigious award," one source said.

Inzamam, who is the only Pakistani batsmen after Hanif Mohammad to score a triple hundred in Test cricket when he got 329 against New Zealand at Lahore in 2002, was overlooked for the award.

He is presently leading the Asian XI side against the Africa XI in a series of three matches for the Afro-Asian Cup in Durban.

In the past, former greats Hanif Mohammad, Fazal Mahmood, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Akram have all been conferred with the Pride of Performance Award.

From some points of view he has a right to be 'not happy' about this. I surely think that Inzamam will get sooner or later this award. He had good performances in this year also.

For me he is already a legend.

well this is wat i hate .. here pcb wants there team to b good rite? Now u xpect them to jus play play and play without even gving him credits or respect . and now Inzi .. who played under lot of pressure and i would also say he really improved the team . c mon some thing shud b awarded to him , he has dont a lot for pak cricket team in fact every one who is playing is doign there best . magar inzi is the senior most player and has served pakistan cricket team and alwayz played for his team . and now wat i think same will happen wid him wat happend wid wasim and waqar on retirement . no farewwell @ all .. now c mon pcb shud step up and gve them sumthing .. and now i would also add that some special award to b ghven to players .. and keep some money aside so that they can gve the players a nice farewell or awards .. and i think inzi deserves award 100 percent .. ... as zahid bhai said "for me he is already a legend" True .. .

man now this is unfair, he really deserves this award. he has fought like a lion on the field of cricket and he really deserves this award. he has brought a lot of pride for his nation.

it always about inzy or shoib or afridi, what about Naved-ul-Hasan, The person who played the biggest role in pakistans odi victory over india? or younis khan who was pakistan main run scorer in the test matches v.s. India?

I Think His Time Has Not Come Yet.mostly People Get Award After Retirement

well inzi shud get this award he has done amazingly, he doesnt have that many more years left in cricket, but maybe hell get it soon, he still has some great things left to do in his cricket life, inshaallah and he has perfect right to being upset at this

He deserves it yaro...he played for Pakistani team for long n played with his best..he SHUD be awarded..but as zahid said..sooner or later..He will inshallah get it

buddy rana has just started performing good while inzy has been doing it for quite some time now. if rana performs consistiently then i m sure he will get the award.

He'll get it... In time, it'll come to him after they see him in action in this busy season coming up for Pakistan and beyond.

You have to think about the news and sources when it's coming from pakistan, God knows who the source is and was and what inzy reaction was. They always have this " One source" says this and that, you never know who said it and what credibility of that source is.

what has he done to deserve the award.......he is always been an underacheiver......failed to show up in wc 2003 when expectations were high of him. unless he does something special in wc 2007 there r no grounds for him to get the award. i m not saying he has performed well but highest civilian award should be given to someone who is special. waqar younis and saeed anwar were much better and they too didnt get the award
