Latif advises Inzamam to play only ODIs

Karachi, Sep 10: Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has advised Inzamam-ul Haq to restrict his remaining career to one-day internationals and conserve his energy for the benefit of the team.

Rashid said after watching the Pakistani skipper in the current series against England he felt it was time Inzamam decided to pick and choose matches, keeping the next year's World Cup in mind.

"It is my personal opinion but I believe that Inzy should now just play a few selected Test matches and concentrate full time on playing one-day internationals. It will reduce the burden of captaincy on him and also ease the batting pressure off him," Latif told PTI today.

"There is too much cricket being played these days and I think at his age Inzy needs to take a tough decision. It is never easy to take such decisions but I think if he tries to just concentrate on one-dayers it will extend his career and also benefit the team in next year's World Cup," said Latif, who has returned to Karachi from England where he plays for the Lashing Cricket Club.

He pointed out it was easier playing the ODIs but in Test matches the pressure was greater and Inzamam needed to concentrate on one mode of the game.

"I know he is keen to set some new records but if he wants to continue playing for another year or two he must decide himself. You look at his batting in the one-dayers he is more relaxed and gets runs consistently. But in Tests he struggled a bit in England."

If he just win the Test and ODI matches early on in the series, till they've won the series, that would help him. Since the last Test and ODI matches aren't significant and he can skip then.

It's better instead of this proposal of Rashid Latif.

to some extent i agree with rashid latif, Inzamam on the field in test cricket is apauling. He's just staring into a world of his own, he needs to be onvolved more like he was yesterday. And against india in 2005.

But he is a marvellous player nonetheless. So its up to the PCB what they will do now.

its not all that bad advice. inzi himself is the best judge of his fitness though and of how much his body can take because there certainly is a lot of cricket these days.
