Pak coach wants Broad to apologise

Pak coach wants Broad to apologise

Karachi: Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam on Wednesday asked International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Chris Broad to apologise to his country and team over his "appalling" allegations after a terror-attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers and match officials in Lahore earlier this month.

"The attack on the cricketers in Lahore was a highly unfortunate incident," Intikhab told IANS. "We all condemn it. It was a gruesome attack that has left all of us in mourning," he said referring to last week's attacks that killed six people, mostly policemen, and left several Sri Lankan players injured.

"But I must say that I was hurt by Chris Broad's appalling allegations against Pakistan as well as our cricket team after the incident. He (Broad) must apologise for those comments," said Intikhab, a former Pakistan Test captain.

Broad, a former England Test opener, told a press conference in Manchester soon after reaching home from Lahore that he and other visiting officials and players were left like "sitting ducks" at the mercy of the terrorists.

"I am extremely angry that we were promised high-level security and in our hour of need that security vanished," Broad said.

He also put a question mark on why the Pakistan cricket team bus left five minutes later than scheduled from the hotel to the stadium, adding that they could have had inside information about the attack.

Intikhab said such allegations were extremely painful for him and his players. "How can anybody say such a thing," he said.

"I mean it's such a wild allegation. I think Mr. Broad is an experienced official and should know what he is talking about. He should know that all teams are given a timetable for commuting and we also had one and were following it on that day too."

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged an official complaint against Broad over his comments concerning the Lahore terror attack.

Former Pakistan captain and director general of the PCB Javed Miandad even said he would urge the ICC to impose a life ban on Broad.

Intikhab said the ICC should ask Broad to issue an apology to Pakistan over his allegations.

"The ICC should take this issue very seriously and should ask Mr. Broad to apologise to Pakistan for his comments that have hurt us deeply," he concluded.

and retards like Kamran abbasi on cricinfo blasting PCB for demanding and aplogy. Without realizing that the issue is not whether security was adequate or not, the issue on broad was he called the security forces javan who laid their lives on line cowards and hinted on pak cricket team complicity. We have to stand on that issue and demand and aplogy. Indian commentators already using that 5 min delay since news started to blame younis and pak team of complicity in the attack. I urge all of the users to blast abbasi at cricinfo so he can come to his senses and see our point of view
