Don’t rush for fielding coach: Inzamam
Don’t rush for fielding coach: Inzamam
By our correspondent
KARACHI: Pakistan cricket team’s captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) not to rush into appointing a fielding coach and make its selection through a proper process.
"Inzamam has told the PCB that it would be good for the team if a fielding coach was attached to the team three to four weeks before the England tour later this year," a Board official said.
He said Inzamam was not pushed about having a fielding coach in the training camp being set up for next month’s tour to Sri Lanka. "His viewpoint is that while it would be good for the team to have a specialist fielding coach helping out the team it should be done before the England tour and someone notable should be picked for this job," the official added.
Recently, the PCB Ad-hoc Committee gave approval for the appointment of bowling and fielding coaches and the PCB chief said efforts would be made to secure the services of former South African batsman Jonty Rhodes who was an outstanding fielder in his playing days. The official said so far the Board had contacted no one for the fielding coach position as it had yet to be decided when the person would be required to help out the Pakistan team.

I think you missed a point that inzy is trying to make
".....and someone notable should be picked for this job,"
He doesn't want some gali cricket coach placed as quick fix, he wants someone who knows his trade, somoene notable, likes of jonty rhodes.

i think the smart move would be to send an offer to jonty rhodes straight away, i think he is the only one who can improve our fielding.

im sure jonty's gonna ask for mad bucks. pcb shud be ready for many millions of rupees financially. jonty mite even say "no" to the coaching. so pcb shud find other notable guys. but jonty will remain first choice.

This whole Pakistani fielding and Jonty Rhodes episode makes me crack up !
You can take the horse to the pond but you cannot make him drink.
When Dennis Lillee could not find a single fast bowler in India how is Jonty going to make Inzi dive or make Kaneria see where the ball is. They should get a diet specialist for Inzi , an eye specialist for Kaneria, a psychologist for Moyo, a counseller for Afridi, a knee surgeon for Shoaib, an action specialist for Shabbir, a bowling coach for Rana .............
Insane. If Pakistan has to improve fielding standards they should make better grounds and provide better cricketing infrastructure at grassroots.

You tell 'em douggg!!
I dont think even Jonty Rhodes can do anything about Kaneria (I dont think anyone can do anything about this guy, let alone poor Jonty), or Shoaib Akhtar. Inzi can just be a slip fielder so that he doesn't have to run around and put too much strain on his delicate body...

Should PCB approach Robin Singh for fielding coach position?
If you remember he was a great player and fielder….he has some coaching experience with previous under19 team…not sure if Yuvraj or Kaif played under him at that time but what do you guys think…is he an option that PCB might peruse ??
your thoughts

typical phoenix remark- when it comes to pak cricket or pakistan generally for that matter phoenix exudes negativity. however if you take a look at the records pak has india beat hands down in both forms of the game. when you cant win (india's dilemma ) you wallow in negativity. pak is the second most successful team in cricket history- no reason for us to be negative.
i guess the attempt was to be funny by saying that yusuf needs a "psychologist" - actually if anybody needs psychologists its the indian coach who cries hysterically when his players are hit in the head by shoaib bouncers and starts attacking shoaib himself. haha. psychologists need to be used for the entire indian contingent to pre-emptively prepare them for the stress of effigy burnings and mock funerals when they lose cause thats what they get from indian fans.
as for afridi needing a "counsellor" hes one of pakistan's best fielders, hes aggressive, quick on the ball and efficient. stupid glibness on this score doesnt change the fact that afridi IS a good fielder. also danish's eye sight has no issues - he didnt reduce the english to crumbling jokes without the ability to see. when rana returns to form and inzi too returns to decimating the indians, the world will be back to normal.
right now what is needed is memory specialists for indians- theyve won one ODI series and lost their marbles. they need to be reminded of the humilation of their test series loss and the pak ODI series win in india.
all the posturing will stop when pak acquires a fielding coach and develops skill in the one area that it is lacking. the bowling and batting went through form issues- there are no major tragedies there. the tragic story in the sub-continent is india's pace deficit, not pak bowling. once pak develops real fielding expertise nobody will be laughing.
