PCB announces another year for all 17 players

Pakistan renew all central contracts
Cricinfo staff
June 10, 2005

The Pakistan Cricket Board has renewed the central contracts of all 17 national players for another year.

Pakistan's top 17 cricketers were given a monthly salary of around $1,200 to $3500 under the first-ever national contracts introduced last year which expired after the team's West Indies tour earlier this month. But contracts of all unfit players or those under scrutiny for illegal bowling actions would be reviewed after six months.

Shoaib Akhtar, who missed both West Indies and Indian tours due to fitness problems also got a renewed contract, ending speculation he could be dropped from the list of contracted players. Akhtar was the last player to sign the contract after he raised certain objections over personal sponsorship.

Inzamam-ul Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Abdul Razzaq, and Akhtar were offered A-category contracts and received a monthly salary of 200,000 rupees (around $3,500). Players in the B category got 125,000 rupees (around $2,100 dollars) while players in the C category received 75,000 rupees (around $1,200) a month.

The contracted players were judged by points scored on their performance in international matches. "The committee has also decided to add some more points, like five points will be given on scoring a century in a Test or one-day match," said a spokesman. A bowler will get five points on getting five wickets in a Test or four wickets in a one-day match while a fielder will get the same number of points on taking four or more catches in a match, he added. "Achieving a world record in any form will give a player ten points while five points will be given on achieving national record in any form."

The renewed contracts start from July 10. The Pakistan team now has a lay off until late October when they host England for three Tests and five one-day games.

It is nice to hear such news, but I want to know the names of the contracted players of which they resumed.

And I am a bit surprised about the 'top salary'. McGrath for instance, if I remember it well, gets 500.000 Australian dollars a year.

I am surprised that Younis has not gone to A category yet. and perhaps also Afridi But I think these maybe more dependant on tests or they want to see another season of performance from these two.

Any idea who is in B and C categories?

Yes australians, english, SA get a lot more as they can generate more money plus there is also the difference in the living standard and pays. The top Australians can get more than that. Our playres have this salaray in addition to the match fees what they had before which is $3000-4000 per ODI and test. so they make good money.

man I think PCB is doing a good job with the contract, it looks like every one is making decent money but I think Younis and Afridi should be in A catagory cuz they performed brilliantly in the past year, so they should get some recognazation.

I am not sure about this part. I thought monthly salary was offered by PCB so that board does'nt have to pay any match fees.

zexyzahi, the money they get is a lot in Pakistan. mcgrath needs that 500,000 cuz australia's much more expensive to live in.

And also , a couple of the players are pretty rich, especially Shahid Afridi. he comes from one of the wealthieast n powerful families of NWFP.

nice that..it would improve the confidence of the players...like the contract system...and also the payment system....it would also motivate the players....though money is not the first priority...

Shoaib it is

According to the recent news all 17 players from Pakistani team got their contracts renewed including Shoaib Akhtar. Since he's in the top echelon in terms of amount of money involved Pcb wants to gamble w/ him. Will he pay out dividents for this investment? Anybody's guess is as good as anybody's else. I do hope he performs according to his paycheck and expectations.
