Cricdb has pinged Pakistan National Selector Abdul Qadir to justify Shahid Afridi's place into the announced squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Senior Pakistan all-rounder has been given another lifeline to revive his Test career by national selectors who asked him to lead the Patron XI squad in the two-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka in Karachi. Afridi who is struggling with his form and being consistently criticized, but chief selector Qadir has some thing else in his mind.
Afridi, 28, hasn't played a Test in more than two-and-a-half years and his chances of being selected for XI appeared to be bleak because of his unimpressive form with the bat, but in view of Qadir’s reliance over the al-rounder
Cricdb understands that Afridi atleast will be part in the final fifteen men.
You have ample of option in the middle-order slot regardless of Shahid Afridi? Since, he is poorly struggling with his form?
Shahid[Afridi] is a very senior player with loads of experience, we can't just dump him because he is going through a lean patch. He is ‘three in one’ cricketer who can bat, bowl and field exceptional.
I know people do critics, but at the same they wish to see him in the field, since he is a great entertainer. If he[Afridi] fails with the bat people unconsciously switch their expectation from his batting to bowling/fielding, so such useful player I personally believes must be in the team and nobody can replace such player.
You and your other company claimed that we actively kept an eye on the domestic cricket, so u didn’t find any player or any potential al-rounder like Shahid Afridi?
Very less cricketers are like him – who are exceptional in every department, I believe Afridi is a complete package. We have not found any player like him yet. If you believe any one can replace Afridi even anyone contracting atleast 70 percent with Afrdi’s skills please let me know.
If Danish (Kaneria) is not good fielder but a good spinner – the point is we are picking him on the basis of wrist-spin and ask him to take wickers, (Saeed) Ajmal is good spinner however not a good batsman we have anticipation for his spin skill and we can’t omit any player on the basis of his lacking in the secondary option. And in Afridi’s case we have an open ended prospect.
