Shahid Afridi and Ajmal make Odi Team of the Year

India's MS Dhoni has been named captain of the ICC's ODI Team of the Year for 2011-12. This is the fifth year in a row that Dhoni has made the team.

His India team-mates, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, have also made the team, with Alastair Cook, Kumar Sangakkara and Michael Clarke making up the rest of the batting. The bowlers include Morne Morkel, Steven Finn, Lasith Malinga and Saeed Ajmal, with Shahid Afridi filling the allrounder's spot. Shane Watson was named 12th man.

The team was chosen by the same five-person jury that picked the Test Team of the Year earlier this month, and announced on the eve of the ICC's annual awards function, that will be held in Colombo on Saturday evening.

More to follow ...

ICC ODI Team of the Year: Gautam Gambhir, Alastair Cook, Kumar Sangakkara, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Michael Clarke, Shahid Afridi, Morne Morne, Steven Finn, Lasith Malinga, Saeed Ajmal, Shane Watson (12th man)

both of them have deserved it, even though Afridis form has dipped a bit in last couple of months, he has done remarkably well the past year and we all know saeed ajmal, don't really need to say much about it

lol at afridi in the list. that's all that can be said. proof that there's no global icc conspiracy against pakistan when shahid afridi can make it onto the odi team of the year based on his form in the last 12 months with both bat and ball, and the likes of amla are nowhere to be seen!

Though I am equally shocked at Afridi's inclusion, but that doesn't mean that there is no bias against Pakistan in ICC. Conspiracy may be too harsh of a word to say but there is clear and intended bias against Pakistan which is very evident from a lot of decisions made by ICC. This is straight discrimination and put huge question mark on the integrity of an international sports governing body. Surely, it has to do with Match fixing fiasco but then ICC should also see Pakistan's conduct, games progress in the country, and efforts of cricket board post summer of 2010. Why not giving consideration to that?

At this point, can't really say it is a bias or just really poor decision making from the ICC.

It's odd how the ICC got bent over backwards by England in the case of Swann and were all of a sudden defiant in the case of Pakistan... Again, poor decision making or bias? I'm not really sure.

Poor decision making and bias often go hand in hand. One led to other.

amla only play 8 matches in that time frame, and its about having all rounder spot, amla is a specialist batsman, they needed one allrounder, is there any other allrounder who you think was better then afridi?

come on dude, afridi isn't even the best all rounder in pakistan anymore, much less best in the world.

Broad and Nathan McCullum? LOL

hafeez is opener, he never plays in late order so that why they couldn't select him

Kallis and Vettori were right up there no doubt about it

P.S - I am not saying Afridi should have been in the team but to say he had no chance is beyond me, his wonderful world cup is one of the biggest reasons why he is in this team

He has had a dip of form no doubt abt it, but his wonderful world cup and couple of series after the world cup is the reason why he got selected over some other people

again I was surprised too that he got in the team but am Happy that more then one pakistani made into the world 11 team
