at that height ... if there were parachute system, tht would also ensure 0 success of survival ... more likely the astronauts are burned by heat shield effect or get bounced out ....
but as far as i remember, the colombus gradually disintegrated as it entered the earth's atmosphere. Most likely cause was from failure to withstand the heat shield effect.
