Latest Gallup survey sinks PPP, shows PML-N, PTI leading

ISLAMABAD: The latest Gallup survey shows President Asif Ali Zardari has hit an all-time low popularity with minus/negative 52 percent net rating while 87 percent of the people of Pakistan believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction.

The survey also concludes that the electoral prospects of the ruling PPP and its coalition partners are very poor as against the PML-N and the PTI, which have 13 percent and 17 percent additional intentional voters in 2012 as compared to what they bagged in the 2008 election and emerge as the top two leading parties of the country.

The survey, which according to Ijaz Shafi Gillani is a confidential document and has not been made public but has been made available to The News by a source, shows the PPP getting down from 31 percent actual vote in 2008 to 21 percent voting intentions in 2012 survey of the Gallup, meaning thereby that it has lost 10 percent of its vote during the last four-and-a-half years.

The survey, the report of which is dated July 20, 2012 but it was conducted in February 2012, shows that the PML-N, which bagged 20 percent of the total votes in 2008 elections, has the support of 33 percent intentional voters in 2012.

The PTI, which did not take part in the 2008 elections and thus did not get any vote, enjoys the support of 17 percent intentional voters in 2012. The PPP allies — MQM, ANP, JUI-F and PML-Q — according to the survey got 35 percent votes in 2008 but saw an exceptional slide with only 14 percent intentional voters in 2012. The respondents were asked: “If national election were held today, which party would you vote for? (PPP, PTI, MQM, JI, PML-N, PML-Q, others)

According to the survey report, in Punjab PML-N leads with 44 percent intentional votes, followed by PTI’s 21 percent. The PPP has only 12 percent votes whereas its allies have only six percent intentional voters in 2012.

Sindh continues to be PPP strength with 47 percent voters as against 42 percent in 2012 whereas PTI has six percent and PML-N has five percent voters in Sindh. Karachi continues to be the stronghold of PPP allies (mainly MQM) with 37 percent voters followed by PTI’s 18 percent votes.

Like Punjab, according to the survey, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also belongs to the PML-N and the PTI with 42 percent and 25 percent intentional voters. The PPP allies (mainly the ruling ANP) have merely 23 percent voters now in the province.

Like Sindh, Balochistan belongs to the PPP with 32 percent voters followed by its allies (mainly JUI and PML-Q) having 26 percent support. All Pakistan voting intentions report shows the PML-N and PTI sharing the majority with 32 percent and 21 percent, respectively, while Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also belong to PML-N and PTI; Sindh goes to PPP and MQM whereas Balochistan is led by PPP and its allies.

About the net performance ratings, it shows that people of Pakistan have lost interest in the president as well as the prime minister. The net performance ratings of the president have slid from negative 4 (-4) to negative 52 (-52) in February 2012 when Yusuf Raza Gilani was the prime minister. Gilani’s net performance rating in 2008 was 26 percent but he came down to negative 40 percent (-40 percent).

About the net performance rating of the PPP government, the survey shows it is negative 56 percent (-56 percent) in 2012.The survey also shows that the vast majority of Pakistanis believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction and that their economic prospects will get worse next year. According to the survey, 87 percent of the people believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction whereas 52 percent fear worse economic prospects next year.Commenting on the story, a PPP member said that the surveys of this kind are worthless as demonstrated by PPP’s victory in recent by-elections in different parts of the country.

so now we know why PML - N is so confident of still forming next govt and PPP doing upmost to have PTI and PML - N mudsling each other so they both get damaged making PPP winner by default.

On papers, this thing is very clear to happen. I've been saying it for a while too. Just on statistics I don't see a strong opposition forming against PPP. Now only thing which can bring change is actual vote. If people really vote against PPP then they are done. Otherwise, even with all mismanagement and corruption, they are still the strongest.

Thanks to Zardari Politics, he never let a strong coalition forming against him.

Shireen Mazari quits PTI – The Express Tribune

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Central Vice President Shireen Mazari announced her decision of resigning from the party on Wednesday.

Mazari was served a show-cause notice by the party administration after she had alleged that the “the party and its Chairman have been hijacked by feudals.”

In her messages posted on Twitter today, Mazari said, “The membership drive was hijacked by ‘big money’ this has compromised the party elections.”

Secretary General PTI Dr Arif Alvi emailed the show-cause issued to Mazari, which states that she “went public and gave interviews to the media only because [PTI chief] Imran Khan could not visit your camp.”

The notice states that Mazari’s “statements before the press were inaccurate, unfounded, and defamed the party and its leadership providing fuel to our political opponents to attack the party with more spurious allegations.”

The notice says that Mazari was informed about Khan’s flight delay and other engagements which kept him visiting the camp.

Mazari Tweeted that the PTI has “changed its principles and brought in intermediaries and that she was not planning on joining another party.”

Mazari also expressed discontentment in her tweets saying “the way they [PTI] treated my daughter on twitter, abusing her over my remarks, is unacceptable.”

She said that she was “not raising allegations” against party chief Imran Khan’s “character”, but that the party principles “had been forgone.”

Mazari said, “I am ready to serve PTI again if the party lives up to its principles.”

Jalil Ahmad Sharkpuri has replaced Mazari.

Nawaz denies accepting money from ISI; accepts FIA probe | DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Thursday categorically denied ‘allegations’ of accepting money from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to stop the current ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) from winning the 1990 election, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to a private news channel, Sharif said that he was seriously considering filing a defamation case against Younus Habib, former president of the now defunct Mehran Bank.

The Supreme Court, on Friday last week, had ordered legal proceedings against former head of intelligence General (retd) Asad Durranand and former army chief General (retd) Aslam Baig over allegations that politicians were bankrolled against the PPP in 1990 election.

It was a landmark ruling from the Supreme Court 16 years after Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan filed a case, accusing the ISI agency of doling out money to a group of politicians including Sharif in the 1990s.

Acknowledging the ruling during an interview today, the PML-N chief said that probe in the Asghar Khan case should be conducted by the FIA as per the orders of the apex court.

Reminiscing his previous tenures in the government, Sharif claimed that he did not even take wages from the national exchequer when he was the chief minister Punjab and the federal finance minister. “I didn’t withdraw a single penny from any secret fund during my tenures…..allegations hurled at me are totally baseless,” he added.

Criticising Younus Habib, the PML-N chief said that apart from the PPP Habib remembers all names to whom he dolled out money. “I strongly reject all allegations of taking or giving away any money in this regard,” he added.

Sharif went on further to deny any meeting with the former Mehran Bank chief. “He (Younus Habib) has a criminal track record…I can’t even recall any meeting with the man,” said Sharif.

Moreover, the PML-N chief revealed that former ISI chief Durrani was not even used to consider the then prime minister as the PM of the country.

A hope was given to Pakistan when huge pledges were made about betterment of Pakistan at Karachi and Lahore. But neither Karachi, nor Lahore want what PTI is preaching lately. And election will prove that.
