LOL comment no joke to judge - wave3.com-Louisville News, Weather & Sports

WOODFORD COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – You have probably seen "LOL," the acronym for laugh out loud, but a drunk driver who typed it on her Facebook page isn't laughing anymore.

A Woodford County Judge warned Paula Asher about her Facebook postings after she drove drunk and ran into the side of another car.
After the crash, Asher posted the following sentence on her Facebook page, "My dumb--- got a DUI and hit a car LOL."

The posting disturbed the people in the car she hit and the judge so much Asher was ordered by the court to shut down her Facebook page.
Asher then ignored the judge's order to shutdown her Facebook page. Since she didn't shutdown the page she was sentenced to two days in jail on a contempt charge.

Asher said, "I didn't think LOL would put me in jail."

Asher now said she apologized to everyone, including the judge.

This has f**k all to do with freedom of speech.
It's to do with the judge changing his sentencing due to the lack of remorse shown by the driver for the actual drunk driving..

Under what law judge is allowed to order closure of fb account or removal of fb post? Surely "got my ass drunk.... LOL" is not inciting violence, hatred or anything even close to that.

How abt that Toronto baseball player offensive as it might be his mssg whats the problem doesn't he have a right to freedom of expression.

Ur premise have been no matter how offensive freedom of speech must be allowed.

We were just having the discussion at work about that specific example!

The baseball player SIGNED a contract with the MLB who have terms and conditions and agreed with them itself.

No one will stop him saying or writing any of that in a public square when he isn't on DUTY from his employer who have terms which he has agreed to!
You're talking about an incident which occurred in a private corporation on private property!

Please tell me you see the distinction!!

Google the parent company is also a pvt entity. The constitutional article applies both in pvt and public sector, you can't deny someone's right just because the said person is in pvt sector irregardless of what contract he/she has signed.
