Mob burns man alive for burning Holy Quran
Mob burns man alive for burning Holy Quran
BAHAWALPUR: An angry mob lynched a man accused of burning the Holy Quran in the Chanighot area of Bahawalpur, burning him to death after pouring petrol on him on Wednesday.
The police reached the spot to control the matter but the mob refused to hand over the accused and continued to torture him.
DSP Ahmadpur Rana Naveed Mumtaz, SHO Chanighot Ghulam Muhaudin Gujjar and seven constables were also injured by the mob.
The protesters also set a DSP jeep and three police mobiles on fire.
DPO Bahawalpur Ishaq Jahangir told The Express Tribune that it was “crystal clear” that the man who set the Holy Quran on fire was mentally unstable.
He added that a police force was sent from Bahawalpur to control the situation and the police are trying to investigate the matter.
He added that all those involved in the incident will be arrested, and an extra force has been deployed at the Chanighot Police Station to avoid any untoward incident.
The person killed has not been identified as yet, and his body has been shifted to a hospital for an autopsy, the DPO said.
The controversial blasphemy laws in Pakistan have resulted in incarceration and the death penalty being handed to scores of people. Former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer was also shot down by his personal guard for supporting a Christian woman Aasia Bibi accused of blasphemy.

something seriously needs to be done about our nation. i am worried we are heading towards anarchy. i say it in all seriousness. our institutions are all dysfunctional. there is nothing but frustration and chaos in pakistan for the common man. i think these bizarre stories we read are born out of a desire to have some control in their lives, so people go out and do these crazy things. but more than that, the constant hopelessness is destroying our mental health. i worry greatly for the future of pakistan.

A frustration release, In the name of the something that everyone thinks is ok.
One way or another these people would have done if not this than something else!

some new details about this story:
Quote:
BAHAWALPUR: In a harrowing incident of mob justice, hundreds of people accused a ‘deranged’ man of sacrilege, mercilessly beat him and burnt him alive in southern Punjab, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Chanighot area of Bahawalpur on Tuesday evening. Residents saw a man allegedly throwing pages from the Holy Quran onto the street. Local police took him into custody and put him in the lockup.
The news spread like a forest fire in the neighbourhood – and soon a frenzied mob gathered outside the Chanighot police station baying for blood.
Police couldn’t stand up to the furious and violent crowd who got hold of the alleged blasphemer, described by one police official as deranged, and brutally tortured him.
Some officers fired tear gas canisters to disperse the mob – but the emotionally charged people refused to hand over the alleged blasphemer and instead turned against the police officers, according to Ghulam Mohiuddin Gujjar, the station house officer (SHO) of Chanighot police station.
Nine police officers, including SHO Gujjar and DSP Rana Naveed Mumtaz, were injured while trying – though unsuccessfully – to rescue the man.
The mob burnt down several police vehicles, including DSP Mumtaz’s four-wheeler, before getting hold of the man, who has not been identified.
Once the unidentified man was in the mob’s custody, he was dragged to the Chanighot Chakar (roundabout), where he had allegedly desecrated the Holy Quran, doused him in petrol and set him on fire.
SHO Gujjar said they have registered two FIRs against 1,500-2,000 people.

you know what i find most disturbing about the issue?
there was a man that was seen tearing pages of the quran, and he was taken into police custody as per the laws. but then, ordinary pakistanis, people supposedly like you and me, people with wives, brotehrs, sisters, parents, kids, people who woke up that morning just like they do every mother morning, got hold of the news. hearing this news turned these supposedly normal people into animals, possessed them, and they dragged the man out of the police station, tortured him, and burned him alive. these people did not wake up this morning wanting to commit murder, but religion has become such a divisive and taboo subject in our culture that this is the way this group of people resolved their emotions. its like our people are time bombs, just waiting for someone to SUPPOSEDLY insult islam so that their true animalistic and violent side can emerge and take matters into their own hands. i wish this was a scene from a movie, but sadly, this is our reality. reading these details, i am absolutely appalled at what our country has become. today, i am ashamed to call myself a pakistani, deeply ashamed.
