LAHORE: In a surprise switchover of loyalties, the former media coordinator of Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League has decided to join the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party.

“A two-party system is entrenched in the country, which is why we have decided to go back to our parent party,” Fawad, who made the decision along with his uncle Chaudhry Shahbaz, told The Express Tribune. A formal announcement will be made in the next few days, he said.
His uncle Shahbaz is currently the APML’s chief coordinator.
Fawad had resigned as the media coordinator of the APML in January, leading to rumours that he may be defecting to the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which has recently welcomed several political heavyweights.

Fawad and Shahbaz have already met PPP co-chairman President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to amicably settle their long-standing issues with the PPP.

“My uncle Chaudhry Altaf, a member of the PPP, remained governor of the Punjab from 1993 to 1997, so our roots lie with the PPP,” Fawad said.
When asked about reports of his negotiations with the PTI, he referred to the example of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid dissident Marvi Memon saying that she had joined PML-Nawaz as she aware of the country’s political scenario. “Results of recent elections have shown that only a two-party can survive.”

But, he said, he had preferred PPP over PML-N as he believed it was a more liberal, visionary and progressive party.

But sources within the PTI said that the party’s senior vice president Hamid Khan had had reservations over welcoming Fawad in the fold, as he often criticised the chief justice of Pakistan.

Fawad’s constituency is Jhelum district where, in 2002, his uncle won a seat on a PML-Q ticket and served as a federal minister. But Fawad established links with Musharraf and was a founding member of the APML. In the next general election, Fawad and Shahbaz will contest on the PPP’s tickets.

But a dispute occurred between Musharraf and Fawad when the APML chief, despite Fawad’s opposition, announced that he will be returning to Pakistan. Fawad had said that, as the party’s media coordinator, he will not be able to defend the APML should Musharraf back out of his commitment.

I am a big musharraf fan and will always be but still very dissapointed for not coming back to Pakistan

musharraf doesnt have the grassroot support to come back...i am not surprised by chaudhry fawad's u-turn...you have to understand that in the Punjab particularly, loyalty is district, electorate based....these guys win their elections and then swear fealty to the highest bidder so to speak.

Even though I am not a big fan of Tahir ul Qadri but seems like his predictions may hold some value when he asked his followers to boycott the elections and get out on the streets for revolution as it cannot and it will not happen by vote.
Winning 50, 60, 70 or 80 odd seats (by PTI) cannot remove the incumbent from power due to rigid elections. Imran Khan is just a bubble for PPP and PML.

Beyta you will learn many more things, including the fact that radical Hindu mindset which rules India will ALWAYS want to see you in trouble and it will never be your friend no matter how many Aman ki Asha harps you play. (No !!! it doesn't mean you launch an attack on their country or start a combat wherever you see an Indian). The math is simple, take them out of your plate of friendship, if they say Hi to you, you say Hi in return. If they ignore you, you ignore them, if they try to create mischief in your internal matters you reply with the same. If they want live in peace, you want to let them live in peace BUT remember this fantasy of friendship is BULLSHIT. Don't waste time on it, we got better things to do.

And hopefully you will also learn to agree with me someday that Misbah is more of a tuk tuk coward then he is "the best winning captain" in the history of Pak cricket.

The person I hated was Musharraf, and I am sure a day will come that you will hate him as well. Just wait a few more years.

no i will not, i appreciate him for all he did for pakistan, i am not a thankless ingrate like some ppl.

There will be a time when you will look at the history with perhaps a little more matured mind to figure out that he harm he has done to Pakistan outweighs the "for all (the good) he did for Pakistan" by multiple folds.
