“It’s exciting, because fashion week is the first step towards putting Pakistan on the international fashion map,” said Maria B, the ace fashion designer.
She said: “I have always supported anything in our industry that unites the fashion community on any platform. I am very excited to be a part of the fashion week in Lahore and am looking forward to showcasing my work along with some of the finest designers in our country. I also believe that this is just the beginning of Pakistan’s exposure to the international fashion scene and a bold, progressive step for us as a council.”

Ammar Belal said: “I’m inspired by the thought behind it (fashion week) and looking forward to a motivated team effort in ensuring the growth of lifestyle brands in and out of Pakistan.”

Munib Nawaz said “I am very excited to be part of the Fashion Week. It is a fantastic opportunity for all designers across Pakistan to show there collections under one organised and structured umbrella.

Sara Shahid said: “We feel honoured to be an integral part of the first Fashion week organised by the PFDC. We are involved in organization and will be showing our Spring/Summer 2010 couture line.”

Nickie and Nina termed the event a great beginning of a new chapter of Pakistani fashion Industry, where eventually designers would be able to make their presence felt in the global market.
The Carnival de Couture — which turned the wheels of fortune around for fashion by putting Pakistani and Indian designers and models on the same platform in Karachi — has been momentarily shelved due to the red flags flying on travel advisories.
But the now regular Ensemble shows — also organised by Zeba Hussain — have stepped in as the perfect alternative. She confirms that 2010 has three shows in line: the first will be a grand fundraiser in Lahore. Designers to feature on the coveted runways are still undecided, but one hears that this show will echo the Carnival de Couture grandeur in terms of Indian participation. The second show to be held in Karachi, in April, will feature Spring/Summer collections of their featured designers. And finally the third show will be held later in the year, again in Karachi and possibly on a big scale if things remain stable in Pakistan. Although the upcoming fashion weeks do pose strong competition, Zeba smiles that something different will always be happening within the white lily marquees that will be put up.
Fashion Week fever
Ever since the ambitious project of Pakistan Fashion Week died two years ago, there has been a murmur of speculation reverberating a ‘can we, can’t we’ mantra regarding a fashion week for Pakistan. And that continued up until November when Ayesha Tammy Haq, the newly-appointed CEO of Fashion Pakistan said, “Yes, we can!”
Now, as a snowball effect, we are looking at an avalanche of not one, not two but three fashion weeks! The first — Karachi Fashion Week — organised by the event management company that held KFW with Fashion Pakistan last year is presently scheduled for end of January.
Fashion week in Lahore will be held in February according to the Pakistan Fashion Design Council (Lahore council). Extending an olive branch to Karachi-based designers to converge on a single platform, Lahore Fashion Week (it doesn’t have an official title yet) may be attracting many of Karachi’s acclaimed designers who are eager to show in Lahore this season. And that means that the third fashion week of the year — Fashion Pakistan week in March — may lose out on some important names. FPW may have been the first but with competition from Lahore, it certainly doesn’t mean it will be the best. Time will tell. So that’s two significant fashion weeks (we’ll include KFW when it actually happens with any merit) showing Autumn/Winter 2010 in February/March and repeating the cycle later in the year for Spring/Summer 2011. Some 30 collections per event would mean 120 collections in all. Or more. That’s a lot of fashion. Let’s hope there’s enough legwork and back end follow up to make it worth it.
Corporate shows
Nowhere in the world do consumer brands have fashion shows unless they are: a) a fashion label; or b) striking an association with a fashion week. But this depilatory brand has now been hosting two fashion shows a year, each one featuring several high-profile fashion labels to a corporate front-row audience. And this year they will be raising that to three. Event manager Frieha Altaf confirms that the shows will be held in April, July and November as a platform for fashion. However, while they were welcome at a time when fashion shows were few and far between, the fashion week mania we are now witnessing makes them rather pointless. It would make more sense for the brand to either pitch in sponsorship for a fashion week or simply make their shows more focused. There is always the Fashion Rocks concept that they already introduced by having Strings on stage last time.
The LSAs need to make a comeback
With so much happening in fashion, the cream on the cake would be having style awards to honour those who have excelled. Following this unprecedented blitz of fashion, having the Lux Style Awards now makes more sense than ever. This year saw a disappointing downsizing of the time-honoured event, which was reduced to a mere photo-meet but the grand affair needs to make a comeback in 2010 and rumour has it that it will. Because despite all the controversy that tags them every year, the LSAs do provide a bustling roundup of everything hip, happening and stylish.

True that about Ali Zafar. And maybe she sounded different because of her British accent?
lol look at this, these are thumbnails from skoop about a press conference for fashion week from soo long ago...i think this is from 2007 and 3 years later they finally got fashion week
LOL if Lahore Fashion Week is more successful than Fashion Pakistan Week then it's going to be a huge slap on Pakistan Council's face. I am sure PFDC will try its best to make it bigger and better!
PFDC Fashion Week will take place from Tuesday, 16th February to Friday 19th February 2010 in Lahore, Pakistan. In a groundbreaking move, the event will showcase pret-a-porter and couture designs from more than 32 designers hailing from across the country. Indeed, Lahore has been the cultural hub of Pakistan and it is thus only fitting that this city steeped in cultural history will host the very first PFDC Fashion Week. Lahore has a history of fashion and the distinction of having Pakistan's first fashion design school, set up 15 years ago, in collaboration with Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale, Paris. PFDC takes great pride in showcasing young designers at fashion week, most of whom are from this school.
In addition to promoting Pakistan's young and mainstream designers on a united platform, PFDC wil showcase the rich heritage of local arts and crafts in Pakistan. The event will work towards formalising the processes needed to help commercialize Pakistan's fashion industry. This is a platform which encourages the business of fashion, awareness of fashion and infuses fresh and new talent into the industry. The main thrust of the Fashion Week is on the industrial application of creativity which translates into production and exports of value added garments from Pakistan.
PFDC Fashion Week is a platform to map Pakistan on international fashion week circuits. This will be the first time there will be a complete synergy between three aspects of business. The designers, the crafts people; mainly women from areas of dispute and conflict and the textile industry worked together in a planned cohesive and sustained manner to add value to previously simple products.
Pakistan has an incredibly rich history of arts and crafts - which has provided the bedrock of our fledging fashion industry. We endeavour to show the world that despite the unstable political situation in which we find ourselves, we Pakistanis are continuing to nurture and promote our creative heritage.
Hadiqa Kiani to Walk on Lahore Fashion Week 02-16-2010-by Mahrook Chaudry
Pakistani pop sensation Hadiqa Kiani destroyed her image last year at the Ponds Ensemble show wear Hadiqa chaotically made it to the ramp and did possibly one of the most embarrassing catwalks ever. Later in an interview Hadiqa admitted that she strongly regretted the walk and she blamed choreographer/ex super model/fashion mogul Freiha Altaf for the mishap. Well Hadiqa is back, and she wants people to forget about that catastrophe and embrace her as a celebrity fashion model. Hadiqa is scheduled to be the Show Stopper for Asifa & Nabeel at the first night of Lahore Fashion Week. Note: Hadiqa Kiani and the very pregnant fashion designer Asifa Imran are apparently really good friends and I guess they are coming together for Fashion Week. But if rumours persist, well, then Hadiqa might model for HSY as well. But as of now she will only be the Show Stopper for the cousin duo Asifa & Nabeel.
Now, Hadiqa is not changing careers (why would she? she had the highest album sales in 2009 and so far her music career is looking very positive)...she will simply be walking as a celebrity endorsing the brand. So all the best Sohnya Darling I hope (for your sake) that you rock that runway!
StarBytes Hadiqa Kiani to walk the ramp at PFDC Fashion Week
Hadiqa Kiani is branching out in a big way, reports Koolmuzone. As we have already mulled over earlier, Hadiqa is taking her love for all things colourful and daring to the next level by heading a salon, La Sinature, in Lahore. However, Hadiqa will once more dip an experimental toe in the glittery pool of fashion by reprising her role on the catwalk. Basically, after a show she walked for last year which she thoroughly regrets now, Hadiqa will be walking at the PFDC Fashion Week. Suddenly all some of us want to do is fly out to Lahore for a minute to watch Hadiqa being showstopper on the day.
Oh, did we not mention that? Hadiqa Kiani will be showstopper for designer duo Asifa & Nabeel. Hadiqa, who is very good friends with Asifa, has deigned only to be showstopper for them, while she may or may not be walking for HSY as well.
As Hadiqa herself had said a couple years ago at the Asifa & Nabeel store launch in Karachi: "Asifa has been designing for me from our college days and is still my emergency designer. I trust her with designing my clothes."
The woman who changes looks in every song, sometimes, many times, Hadiqa is taking her fabulous self back on the runway. So watch out for this celebrity model when the drama of PFDC Fashion Week begins to unfold next week.
